Roccolo Grassi was established in 1996 by Bruno Sartori and his two children, Marco and Francesca. The property is named for the estate's most prized vineyard, 'Roccolo Grassi', and comprises 14 Ha of vineyards farmed sustainably in the regions of Soave and Valpolicella. "Our mission is to produce wines with character, personality, identifiable as to their place of origin, according to Grassi's traditional method. Our wines will evolve and mature with bottle aging. Our plans are ambitious, yet we desire to preserve Roccolo Grassi as a family run business." The goal of Marco,Francesca and Bruno is to harvest superior quality grapes and to produce relatively small quantities of outstanding wine. Accordingly, the quantity of bottles produced will be dependent on the vintage.
Winemaking: This 100% Garganega wine hails from the estate's 2 Ha 'La Broia' vineyard, where the vines are planted in a south-easterly direction at 100 meters above sea level. The soils are alluvial and rich with limestone. After harvest, the grapes are pressed and fermented, 80% in barrique and 20% in stainless steel. Malolactic fermentation is carried out, mostly in barrique. The wine is aged for 12 months sur lie in neutral Slavonian oak barrels followed by 6 months in bottle.
Color: Definite pale yellow with green highlights. Bright.
Nose: The nose is subtle with a hint of white peaches and spring flowers, giving way to an appealing minerality and the faintest suggestion of oak.
Palate: The characteristics on the nose carry forward into the wine. The peach and spring flowers are echoed, along with a citrus undertone. The minerality persists and the finish is long, complex and harmonious, again just kissed by oak. The wine is grippy and has an appealing viscosity whilst maintaining freshness.
Alcohol is 12.5%. Serving Temperature: 55° F - 58° F
